Placing the fish on the mat prevents it from writhing around allowing you to perform tasks efficiently such as piercing the brain, draining blood or inserting a wire or a fish pick if performing Ikejime.
Since the fish do not come in contact with the boat deck or the ground directly, the damage that would occur when the fish struggles is lessened significantly. It is also suitable for other tasks such as Gyotaku (Fish printing).
There are two separate pieces, which can be connected if needed, so the size can be changed according to the fish.

Caught fish can be easily measured by passing ‘Fish Measuring Tape Type 1’ (Product number MR-036) through the slits in the mat. (There are 2 slits per mat and 2 mats are included per set.)
Any blood or dirt on the surface of the mat can be easily washed off by running it under tap water.
